Never Been to an Auction?
Not to worry you won't buy something if you just wipe your nose, that's a myth!!
You will have plenty of time to preview the objects and ask questions of the buyers (and your iPad;) Go ahead and nose around, take a photo and a measurement, open the doors and drawers and sniff what hundreds of years smells like. Once you're satisfied with a piece, make sure and register first, and when you have your "paddle number" you can start to bid!! Just wave your paddle at the auctioneer, make sure he sees you! Remember 'the auctioneer doesn't miss you, you miss the auctioneer'! If you want you can raise a finger or rub your nose once you have his attention, that's fine. Some folks like to call out, "yep" or "I'm in" or "here!"
Be sure you know what your limit is, and don't go past it. In the heat of the moment you may change your mind but a good auction buyer knows their limit and sticks to it.
Good Luck,
and have fun!!
